Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a bathroom on the boat?
The Mary Fisher has one bathroom, or head. It is equipped with a flush toilet and sink. We keep our head clean. No getting sick in the head!

Can I bring my own fishing gear?
Yes, however, please limit it to two rods and one tackle box/bag as space is limited. I have some good quality gear available for saltwater fishing that I am sure you will be very happy with. If you do decide to bring your own gear please make sure that I know about it so I can make room. Also it may be helpful if you call me to ask what kind of line and tackle to gear up with. No surf rods or light spinning tackle please in consideration of the rest of the crew.

Ok, so what should we bring?
Yourself and friends! We suggest you take along what you like to eat and drink (alcohol in moderation only!), sunscreen lotion, sunglasses, hat, camera, comfortable shoes, appropriate clothing etc. You may want to have an extra set of clothes/shoes in case you get wet out there. Our Deck can get a little wet sometimes so spare shoes and socks are highly recommended for when you get in. You can carry a small cooler on board for your lunch. You may want to have a larger cooler with ice in your car to transport your catch. Expect to get your feet wet so be prepared. Clogs, flip-flop footwear and cowboy boots are unsafe.

Are we expected to tip?
Tipping is normal in charter fishing. If you have a nice day out, and feel like your crew worked hard for you- then yes a tip is appreciated. Like restaurants and many other service work a 20% tip is a general guideline for good service. If you are happy with your trip the best gratuity you can give is to tell a friend about us!

What Is supplied on the trips ?
We have all of the fishing gear you will need. We supply all the bait and tackle, and fishing license. We will fillet and bag your catch for you if you would like. You will be coached and assisted throughout the day depending on your needs.

What if I forget my camera?
Captain Bob carries a digital camera in my boat at all times. We take shots of you and your fish then post them on the site.

How many fish will I catch/ Do you guarantee fish?
Believe it or not we get asked this a lot. We would love to guarantee you bring back several pounds of fish fillets, but that is impossible. We do guarantee that each and every trip we do everything we can, and within our arsenal to hook you up. That may mean changing gear, bait or fishing spots altogether. Ultimately it's up to you; you are holding the rod. Ask questions, stand up and be ready to react and check your bait often.

What if it is bad weather?
It is our discretion to go or not to go. The winds are bad to us when it is a small craft advisory. Sometimes the forecast calls for seas 6-8 feet, if it is a rolling swell no problem. Other times 4-6 can be a sloppy uncomfortable mess that is potentially dangerous. This is Florida, and we constantly have an eye and ear on the weather. This is a decision we make based on the best weather forecasts available, our knowledge and experience.

Is Alcohol Allowed on Board?
Consumption in moderation only. If you show up intoxicated we will not let you on the boat, period. The captain or crew has the right to restrict your consumption or confiscate your alcohol at any time. Although we want you to have a fun fishing trip, your safety, as well as every one else's is our first priority. Please respect our alcohol guidelines.
